The kick-off meeting of the project was held in Paris on January 28th. During the meeting it was agreed that the work to be undertaken under MyAID will focus on developing a European eID scheme for Higher Education that allows students to identify and authenticate themselves online to access the electronic services laid out in the application and grant agreement.
27 people were present at the meeting, among whom Jean-Paul Roumegas, Counsellor for International Relations and Partnerships at CNOUS, Joao Bacelar, the Executive Manager of the European University Foundation (EUF), Anne Bajart, the Deputy Head of Unit for Interactive Technologies, Digital for Culture & Education within DG CONNECT, Harpa-Sif Arnarsdottir, policy officer in the Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) and Graeme Robertson-Liersch, policy officer at DG EAC.
During the meeting the attendees shared the vision, goals and milestones of the action with a view to ensuring that all project partners understand their role in the project and get a good grasp of the final aim: creating a single European eID scheme for Higher Education. To achieve this, MyAID will connect and integrate three key electronic identifiers: eduGAIN, the European Student Identifier (ESI, from the European Student Card Project led by CNOUS) and eIDAS. This means that rather than creating new platforms or identities, MyAID will start from the Erasmus+ mobility scenarios which will provide the ideal testing environment that can be enlarged with other scenarios (non-specific to student mobility). MyAID will align, connect, integrate and bootstrap the digital infrastructure and services that already exist. This will pave the way for a future where students and HEIs can each access services through a single portal.
Each activity leader then gave a short, general overview of the main milestones and tasks that will be carried within each of their activity packages throughout the timelines of the project (see the list below).
Activity 1: Blueprinting a European eID for HE (GEANT)
Activity 2: Initial implementation (GEANT)
Activity 3: Integration eID in service/identity provider platforms (EUF)
Activity 4: Dissemination and exploitation (EDUCatt)
Activity 5: Quality Assurance and Evaluation (UMA)
